Unifying global airpower to address common challenges
The Colombo Air Symposium 2017, organised by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), will be held on Oct.12-13 at Eagles’ Lakeside Banquet & Convention Hall, Attidiya, Colombo.
“This year’s symposium, under the theme “Airpower in Addressing Asymmetric Threats”, will bring together military leaders, technical experts, global think-tanks and diplomats worldwide to share their knowledge and proficiency on building a unified global Airpower to address common challenges,” the SLAF stated.
While border and territorial disputes continue to be potential flashpoints for conflicts worldwide, non-conventional security threats such as transnational terrorism, natural disasters and global pandemics have added complexities and posed new challenges for military forces. Airpower, a traditionally offensive military instrument, is increasingly employed to address the above issues as well as humanitarian assistance, and peace-keeping operations. Hence, the SLAF expects this year’s theme “Airpower in Addressing Asymmetric Threats,” would stimulate a broad discourse among the participants.
The Colombo Air Symposium inaugurated in 2015, is a key annual event organised by the SLAF, to develop a wider perspective of world Airpower and to increase cooperation, understanding and goodwill among representing nations.
