The beautiful rain
You know that everyone likes the rain. Some small children are scared of thunder and lightning. Some children are not and they like the rain. Children who are not afraid, love to play in the rain. They jump in the muddy puddles and they like to sail boats in the water.
Swallows give signs before the rain. The colourful rainbow after the rain, makes the world colourful. The fresh environment makes everybody happy. They children get a lot of fun and joy because of the rain. Of course sometimes children can get sick by playing in the cold water.
The rain has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is we can get water etc. A disadvantage is the rain can make dangerous natural disasters like floods. We can’t live without rain. Farmers need the rain for their cultivation. Then we get food. The rain is very beautiful and cold. I like the rain very much.

Mother’s Love
Although it was daytime, the sky got dark. My sister and I were peeping at a bird nest through the window. Thunder and lightning scared me. It was about to rain but the mother bird sitting on the nest located at the end of the branch was protecting its baby birds. The branches of the tree were shaking in the wind. The rain showered the mother bird and the bird nest. The father bird was crying on a nearby branch. With her wings, the mother covered her baby birds. There were three tiny babies who could not fly.
Rain causes floods and made people sad. Some lost everything
and earth slips caused so many deaths. Though nature punished us, the mother’s love protected the baby birds. Their nest didn’t break.
Mother’s love is the most precious thing in the world. When I broke my hand, my mother looked after me like a gem. I love my mother so much! I hope the baby birds also love their mother very much.

Advantages and disadvantages of the Internet
Nowadays the internet is the most common form of communication. It is a worldwide connection of computer systems over a massive network.
There are certain advantages and disadvantages of the internet. First of all, the internet has made communication very simple, easy and convenient. It is possible to stay in touch with people that you hardly ever see. Moreover the internet is a source of knowledge. Anyone can simply open the internet and get information about anything. In other words it’s like a small encyclopaedia about everything in the universe.
A disadvantage is that everything online isn’t trustworthy. Websites that are supposed to be trusted and reliable are sometimes not reliable. It is true that the internet has made it easier to find out basic facts such as the locations but sometimes even that information is incorrect. Also some people use the internet too much and forget real life contact. It may now be easier to keep in contact with people you know, but it has removed any incentive to visit people. In other words it can be addictive and a waste of time and even money.
Two angles have been compared
in both a positive and negative light.
The internet can be useful and dangerous at the same time.
In my opinion treat the information you read online with a high degree of scepticism and you should be alright. It is good to use the internet to stay in contact with people, however do not allow online contact to start replicating physical contact. It is important to strike a balance between the two.

Travelling and education
Basically, travelling means going from one interesting place to another. People travel around the world to enjoy and to see and learn more. In ancient times, travelling was a hard, difficult and risky activity. Travellers had to face challenges like robbers, wild animal threats and natural disasters. But owing to the development of travelling and technology, today travelling has become more quick, easy and comfortable.

Travelling is an important part of education. It helps making a perfect person. When we travel around the world, we can learn about the customs, traditions of other countries and meet new friends. Also we can see the beauties belonging to each country and admire the beauty of nature.

I think that travelling is important for effective education. Books cannot make you perfect so you have to travel and gain those valuable experiences. Travelling can grant you a lot of things, it can make you a different person. Travelling is essential for good education. After all, I think travelling is the best addiction.

Flying kites
Flying kites is a popular pastime. Both young and old enjoy flying kites. There are kites of different shapes, colours and sizes. Among them cobra, peacock and eagle shaped kites are very common.

The first kite was made in China. The kite was considered as the symbol of good fortune. Making kites is very easy and inexpensive. We need twine, thread, bamboo sticks and tissue to make a kite.

Kites are flown in dry and windy season. Kites are flown in open areas such as paddy fields, beaches and meadows. Sri Lankans usually fly kites in August. It brings joy for both those who fly kites an spectators. Flying kites is an interesting and recreational activity.

Mother Earth
A tiny spot in space,
It’s the third from the sun,
It stands there, with a grace,
Around the sun it has a run.

Fertile soil with cool air,
Green trees everywhere,
Brown deserts are very rare,
The pretty nature you have to care.

I have the moon which smiles at me.
It likes to rotate around me,
But sometimes I cannot see,
Whether the moon looks at me.

I love the ones who live on me,
I gave them shelter as you can see,
I’m the one who gave them birth,
And I’m known as Mother Earth.

A trip to Kalutara
I went to Kalutara with my family during the holidays by train. We passed eight tunnels and we shouted ‘hooooo’ and went passed them. We saw the Dawson Tower and Bible Rock on our way.
We reached our aunty’s place in time for lunch. After lunch we played cricket on the beach with my cousins. We stayed four days in Kalutara and came back to Kandy in time for school.

My hobby
My hobby is planting flowers. Wherever I go I pick flowers and plant in my garden. In my garden there are several kinds of flowers, such as roses, jasmine and anthurium. Flowers in my garden have a pleasant smell and they are very colourful.
Every day I put water and soil to them. In my leisure time I spend my time with flowers. My garden is full of flowers and butterflies. I like my garden very much. Mostly insects come to suck nectar from flowers.
