All ready for the big splash at the CRC
The 48th Royal-Thomian Regatta, the battle for the T. Noel Fernando Memorial Trophy will take place at the Colombo Rowing Club next Saturday 1.00 p.m. onwards.
The Regatta is the oldest inter-Schools regatta and the second oldest regatta in the country. It carries a total of fifty two points spread across eight races that are rowed across a traditional distance of 1000 yards.
The Boat Race considered the most prestigious race and it rowed for the coveted ‘Cross Oars Trophy’ while the overall winner of the Regatta is awarded the T. Noel Fernando Memorial Trophy.
This year marks the Forty eighth edition of the Regatta and the forty eighth Boat Race which promises a spectacular display of both rivalry and sportsmanship in a test to own the waters of Beire Lake.
Royal achieved a resounding victory at the last edition of the Regatta last year improving their record of forty eight points under the leadership of Kaveen Rajapakse with a 50 points win. A confident looking Royal outfit take to the waters on next Saturday to retain the championship with another outstanding display of rowing.
Royal under the leadership of Hashen Hettigoda enjoying a good 2017 season with excellent achievements in winning the Ranfar Regatta defeating Colombo Rowing Club, emerged winners of the Overall Over Eighteen category at the National, competing with armed forces, winning several club trophies such as Gordon Armstrong, Vanlangenburg, RCYC and Herman Sirimanne and V.A. Julis trophies.
The Thomians led by Arjun Wickremanayake on the other hand are all out to win the Noel Fernando Trophy and take over its possession. S. Thomas’ pin their hopes on their senior oarsmen to make amends for their huge defeat suffered last year. They are sure to use their talent and experience to give their alma mater a new chapter in rowing.

- The main event – Boat Race: winners will receive the Royal-Thomian Boat Race Trophy (12 points)
- Senior Coxless Pairs: winners to receive Freddie Ryan trophy(8 points)
- Senior Double Sculls: Sirisena-Sirimanne Trophy (8 points)
- Senior Single Sculls: Senior Sculls Trophy (6 points)
- Junior Coxed Fours: Eraj Wijesinghe Trophy (8 points)
- Junior Coxless Pairs: Chula Semasinghe Challenge Trophy (4 points)
- Junior Double Sculls: Revival Trophy(Phillips Mohideen Trophy) (4 points)
- Junior Single Sculls: Ajit Gunawardene Trophy (2 points)
