Gamlath bags a hat-trick of meet records
Indika Gamlath of Colombo Dockyard PLC obtained a hat-trick of meet records at the conclusion of the second day of the 34th Mercantile Athletics Championships at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex Diyagama, yesterday.
They were in the men’s over 40, 100 mtrs, 200 mtrs and 400 mtrs. Sri Lal Alahakone of Vee Power Solutions had set up two new records in the 200 metrs and 400 metrs events.
Another two records were lowered in the women’s novices by H.A. H. Erandi of SriLankan Airlines. These were in the shot-putt and discus throw events. Twenty two meet records were lowered within the last two days. MAS Holdings were responsible for five records, SriLankan Airlines four, Dock Yard and Telecom were responsible for two records each.
Defending overall champions Sri Lanka Telecom and MAS Holdings were involved in a tight struggle for the championship title after lunch.
Over 200 athletes from fifty four companies are involved in the meet including over 50 Indian athletes.
Today is the final day of the meet.
