OUSL wins Best Practices’ Gold, Silver in Indonesia

The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) won Gold and Silver in the Best Practices (BP) category from over 350 Research papers presented at the 31st Annual Conference of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU 2017) hosted by the Open University of Indonesia from Sept.27-29, at the Royal Ambarrukmo, Indonesia. The conference was themed “Open University for Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education”.

At this conference, 6 papers were shortlisted for the BPs award in Open & Distance Learning (ODL), of which 3 from the OUSL were shortlisted .
Gold was won for the Research paper titled, “Development of a Hybrid Learning System to Enhance ODL; Printed Course Material Amelioration via Smartphones by Eng. W.R. de Mel and M.R. Mohomed Haroon of the Dept of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Technology, OUSL, student M.R. Mohomed Haroon presented a paper at this conference.

This paper develops a Hybrid Learning System (HLS) in the field of ODL. The HLS refers to methods of study where there is an analytically planned mix of both conventional study notes and online learning resources. In other words, HLS presents via QR codes, a video tutorial, an e-book, a website, lecture note prepared by the course expertise or, any other relevant material stored in the cloud storage, by accessing the internet at a glance, and fosters learning attitudes of students, sensing that the ‘Lecturer is close at hand’.
