SLPI convocation for 132 journalists who successfully complete English course
View(s):The Sri Lanka Press Institute held a convocation ceremony to award certificates to 132 journalists from all provinces of the country, for successfully completing an English course.
Jim Russo, Director, Press, Cultural and Academic Affairs of the U.S. Embassy was Chief Guest at the event held on October 24 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).
The Sri Lanka Press Institute launched the ‘English for Journalists’ programme in 2015 with the support of the United States Embassy to help regional journalists enhance communication, reading and writing skills to suit modern journalism.
The project was mainly designed to benefit journalists working for the Sinhala and Tamil media and working at regional level.
Around 197 journalists were selected from all nine provinces to follow the course that was designed by Dinali Fernando, Head of the Department of English of the University of Kelaniya.
The three months course that was aimed at providing students with the best possible practical knowledge was conducted at a regional level for the convenience of the journalists, by experienced teachers from the areas.
