This year’s National Law Conference to focus on legal issues in today’s globalised world
View(s):The annual National Law Conference 2017/2018, organised by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) is scheduled to kick off next week.
The three day conference starting from November 3, at Shangri-La Hambantota Golf Resort and Spa is titled “Adapting to an evolving global landscape”. The conference will present a unique canvass to consider legal issues in today’s globalised world.
This annual conference is considered by both the legal fraternity and the wider public as an interactive forum for both legal practitioners and academics.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will deliver the key note address at the inauguration ceremony of the conference that will see more than 300 participants and will include eminent local and international speakers.
The conference will include plenary and concurrent academic sessions, interactive workshops and presentations. Announcing the conference officially, BASL president U.R. de Silva said the event will be an ideal opportunity to gain and exchange knowledge with legal scholars and practising legal professionals.
The organising committee comprising 20 lawyers is headed by Murshid Maharoof. The committee’s convenor Shamir Zavahir said this year’s topics will relate to contemporary legal aspects such as money laundering, digital banking and regulations on Foreign Direct Investments (FDI). The panelists will include foreign legal experts, sitting Supreme Court judges, practising lawyers, corporate lawyers and legal academics.
