De Mazenod takes Herman Loos Trophy
Sgt: Cristal Mendis is awarded as the Best Cadet by Deputy Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardena.
At the Centenary of the Herman LooseChallenge Trophy of the Cadets, De Mazenod College of Kandana secured the Trophy held at the Training Center, Rantambe. This achievement is from around 2000 Cadets in Camp.
The best Cadet was also adjudged from De Mazenod College as Sgt: Cristal Mendis and Second Lieutenant Asela Perera as the best Commander
Cadetting was established in De Mazenod College many decades ago. But, after a lapse of many years it was revived in 1989 under the stewardship of the then Principal Rev; Bro: Camillus Silva FSC.
De Mazenod College Cadet Platoon took part in the National Cadet Training at Rantambe in 1991 and in 1997 they were able to secure the First Place at the Battalion Camp competition and was nominated for the prestigious Herman Loos Challenge Trophy
In 2014 they became runners up and won the fourth place in 2015. But it was only in 2017, that De Mazenod made history on the Herman Loos — the centenary year.
Principal, Rev: Bro Janaka Fonseka FSC paid a special and significant tribute to the Platoon and its Commander.
Among others for this achievement is Deputy Principal and sports co-ordinator Rev: Bro: Pubudu Rajapakse and the Prefect of Games Capt: Frank Marthinu.
