Dellon spins S. Thomas’ to third outright win
A match bag of 9 for 60 and a top score of 40 runs by Dellon Peiris helped S. Thomas’ beat Maliyadeva by nine wickets and register their third outright win for the season at Mt. Lavinia, yesterday.
Batting first the Thomians the home team declared their inning at 226 for 9 with Peiris top scoring with a knock of 40.
The left arm spinner followed this up with a three wicket haul (3 for 12) with the help of Shanon Fernando (3 for 3) to skittle the Devans for a paltry 81 runs in their first inning.
After being asked to follow-on the visitors fared better with the bat to score 198 runs in their second assay; the once again the scourge was Dellon himself. This time he returned with impressive figures of 6 for 48 to help his team score the required 60 runs for the loss of only one wicket.
Trinity cruised to a comfortable eight wicket win against St Benedict’s at Kotahena.
Trinity in fact had laid the foundation on day one with the help of an unbeaten 112 by Trevon Percival. This helped Trinity make a first innings total of 261. But, the Benedictines ended day one on 115 for 5 managed only 160 runs.
Made to follow on with a deficit of 101 runs Bens fared no better as they were able to muster a score of only 131 runs in their second turn leaving Trinity a simple run chase of 31 runs.
Asel Sigera shone with a match bag of 10 for 69 in Ananda’s eight wicket win against Zahira which ended at Maradana yesterday. The writing on the wall appeared when Zahira was bundled out for 99 in reply to Ananda’s 235.
Following on Zahira put up a better batting performance making 181 but the target they set for Ananda was a meager 46 runs which Ananda reached with the minimum of fuss.
An allround performance by Kavindu Nadeeshan paved the way for Dharmasoka MV Ambalangoda to record a massive outright win by 210 runs over Moratu MV played at Balapitiya.
Royal Colombo and St Servatius Matara had to be satisfied with first inning wins over Richmond and Wesley while in the lower division matches saw Loyala Kochchikade defeat Royal Kurunegala at Godigamuwa and Christ King Ja-Ela overcome President’s Maharagama by innings.
