“Hanthana Pirumpuma”: Celebrating life and arts at Pera Uni
View(s):The University of Peradeniya, surrounded by the beautiful Hanthana mountain range is one of the most beautiful universities in the world. Arts and culture have always had a unique and special place here and the University has been a fertile background for many renowned artists who have nurtured the Sinhala arts and culture in the country.
In a rapidly changing world, the University of Peradeniya has been able to send out graduates with ethical values, because of the messages imbibed from the dramas and artistic creations produced here.
The Engineering Faculty of the University of Peradeniya has also inherited the traditions of art and culture prevalent at Pera and this remains unchanged over the generations. The Faculty of Engineering, well known as “Kammala” in the University of Peradeniya, plays a pivotal role to take the artistic creations born in the university, beyond the university level and into society.
Pera 82 Engineers’ Association, a group of the past graduates of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, will present “Hanthana Pirumpuma” to highlight 35 years of being together along with the 75th Anniversary of University of Peradeniya.
“Hanthana Pirumpuma” a walk through arts and drama will be held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall on November 12 at 6.30 p.m.
Prof. Ediriweera Sarathchandra’s famed works “Maname” and “ Sinhabahu” together with “Nari Bena”, “Gajaman Puwatha”, “Mudhu Puththu”, “Vikurthi”, “Bera Handa”, “ Dona Katharina” and dramas related to Tamil literature such as “ Ravaneshan” will be presented under the direction of the well renowned Sri Lankan dramatist K. B. Herath and musical director Ranjith Balasuriya. Taking the stage will be popular artists such as Prof. Maunaguru, Jayalath Manorathne, Nissanka Diddeniya, Prasannajith Abeysuriya, Rodney Warnakula, Rathna Lalani, Madhani Malwattage, Mithra Kapuge, Saman Lenin, Kaushlya Fernando and Janaka Wickramasinghe.
