Budding sprint queen Evanthi Imeshika brings glory to St. Mary’s Convent Matara

Evanthi Imeshika brought glory to her alma mater St. Mary’s Convent Matara and Matara district by winning the 100metre dash for girls Under-18 in a time of 12.37 seconds edging out favourite Shalinda Jenson of Gatgeway College (12.44secs) and Devinya Perera of Musaeus College (12.57secs) to second and third place at the 33rd All-Island Schools Athletic Meet 2017 held at Diyagama last week.
She was placed second in the 200metre event clocking a time of 25.60 seconds.“St. Mary’s is proud of Evanthie’s achievements,” said Reverend Sister Sandamali Kurera, the Principal of St. Mary’s Convent Matara. District Sports officer Matara, Lal Wijewickrema, under whom Evanthie has trained throughout her athletics, carrier said that she was a great prospect who has consistently improved on her timings and was capable of achieving faster timings in the future. - P.D. de Silva
