A ‘Sweet Escape’ for Slipping Chairs
The Slipping Chairs needs no introduction, as anyone who’s been a part of the rock and live music scene would have witnessed them play or heard them over the radio. After years in the industry they’ve realised their debut album “The Sweet Escape.” The launch took place at the Poolside of the Hilton Colombo Residence which transformed into a concert venue, with fans and invitees treated to a night of music.

The unconventional venue strangely worked. The pool which was decorated with floating red lit cubes and a ‘slipping chair’ added to the ambiance, and gave the event a cross between a cocktail party and a mini concert.
Opening for the Slipping Chairs, was the producer of their album Sheaam Deen who perfomed along side Shamista, Ravin, Shivy , and Danny. Following up was the band Cosmogyro, who got the crowd going with a few rock covers of “ Dreadlock Holiday” and Ray Charles’ “ I got a woman”. After which the Slipping Chairs took to the stage to perform. The set list was a mix of original songs that were released previously as well as songs of their album. This included the title track of the album “The Sweet Escape”. It was interesting to note that some songs of their album held a more mellow vibe being featured as well as a touch of latin drumming.
The event also saw the first copy of the album ceremoniously handed over to Malik Fernando, director of AV Dynamics, whom the band credits as a supporter from its early days.
The audience seemed to have enjoyed the music with the tighly packed crowd grooving and dancing , and even ocassionally headbanging to the music.
