CEB and Air Force win Super League VB titles
Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) SC and Sri Lanka Air Force SC bagged the Munchee National Super League Volleyball Tournament’s men’s and women’s titles at the National Youth Service Council (NYSC) indoor courts, Maharagama. yesterday.
The tournaments were conducted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and sponsored by Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL).
In the men’s final CEB scored an easy three sets to nil (25-21, 25-16 and 25-20. ) win over Sri Lanka Army.
In the women’s final Air Force beat Army by three sets to one (21-25, 25-18, 35-33 and 25-15). Army won the first set comfortably but Air Force came back strongly in the next three sets to record a convincing win. Both teams fought tooth and nail with the third set extended to 35-33 in favour of Air women. This was a rare occasion especially in a national women’s final.
In the morning session the Novices men’s and women’s final were conducted where SLAOC Sports Club, Galle beat Golden Tigers SC Kurunegala by three sets to two to take the men’s championship. Scores 22-25, 27-25, 18-25, 25-22 and 11-15.
In the women’s Novices final Boyagama Siri Parakum SC Galigamuwa beat Rathanapala SC, Mahauswewa by three sets to nil. The scores were 25-20, 25-21 and 25-18.
