MAS dominate Merc. ‘B’ hockey
MAS Holdings dominated the Mercantile ‘B’ Division Hockey Championship by emerging Triple Crown winners when they won the League, Knock-out and the 7-a-Side tournaments organised by the Mercantile Hockey Association recently.
It was MAS all the way remaining unbeaten right throughout the three segments scoring thirty one goals in the tournament. In the League championship MAS under the leadership pf Raveen Gunasekera defeated Seylan Bank 6-2 (Shahid Kuthubdeen 3, Dhanushka Weeraratne 1, Shammika Meegahapola 1, Isuru Wijenayake 1), Nations Trust Bank 2-1 (Shahid Kuthubdeen 1, Dhanushka Weeraratne 1), Singer Sri Lanka 3-1 (Lakmal Ranasinghe 1, Dhanushka Weeraratne 2), Janashakthi Insurance 2-1 (Dhanushka Weeraratne 1, Yohan Thilakaratne 1), Commercial Bank ‘B’ 2-1 (Jeshurun Arulrajah 1, Dhananjaya Madugalle 1)
Shammika Meegahapola led MAS to win the Mercantile ‘B’ Knock-out with victories over Singer Sri Lanka 3-1 (Lakmal Ranasinghe 1, Dhananjaya Madugalle 1, Jeshurun Arulrajah 1) in the semi-finals and emerged victorious by defeating Commercial Bank ‘B’ 6-1 (Shahid Kuthubdeen 3, Dhanushka Weeraratne 2, Tharindu Deegala 1) in the finals.
Led by Jushurun Arulrajah MAS defeated Singer Sri Lanka 2-0 (Shahid Kuthubdeen 1, Krishan Kumarasinghe 1), Nations Trust Bank 3-0 (Krishan Kumarasinghe 1, Shahid Kuthubdeen 1, Dhanushka Weeraratne 1), and in the finals they overcame Seylan Bank 2-1 (Krishan Kumarasinghe 1, Shahid Kuthubdeen 1) in eight second shoot out to win the championship in the 7-a-Side.
