JO backs President for action against ‘bondits’
The Joint Opposition (JO) yesterday pledged its support to President Maithripala Sirisena, saying its members will support him in any action taken against persons behind the Bond issue.
UPFA MP Bandula Gunewardena said that some UNP members have started attacking the President’s efforts to take action against persons involved in the Bond scam, but the JO would back the President on this issue.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Parliament complex, the UPFA MP said the JO has been pushing the Government to take action against those involved in the Bond issue, and the President’s decision to appoint a Commission of Inquiry to look into the matter was due to the JO’s persistent demand.
He projected that the losses due to the Bond issue will affect the country till 2093, with the people being subject to rigorous taxing.
