Lecture on the endangered Western Purple-faced Langur
View(s):The French Scholars’ Association (ASLAEF), in collaboration with the Alliance Francaise de Kotte in Colombo has organised a lecture titled ‘Against All Odds: The Critically Endangered Western Purple-faced Langur Still Leaps!’ on November 30 from 6.30 p.m. – 8.00 p.m. at the AFKo premises, No 11, Keppetipola Mawatha, Colombo 5 (adjoining Police Park in Thimbirigasyaya).
The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Jinie Dela, a long-time primate researcher, who is the President of the recently formed Primatological Society of Sri Lanka which will also be introduced at the lecture. She will highlight the behaviour and group dynamics of the Western Purple-Faced Langur (WPFL) found only in the western lowlands of Sri Lanka and nowhere else in the world. It is still seen as abundant within its range, but threatened with “extinction” because of loss of habitat and escalating human-monkey conflict.
This lecture is open to all.
