‘Hima Tharaka’ shines in Italy
View(s):Veteran writer, journalist and filmmaker Rodney Vidanapathirana’s second film ‘Hima Tharaka’ (Snowy Stars) had a special screening in Italy recently.
The film was screened at Florence and with the participation of a large number of Sri Lankans living in Italy.
The chief prelate of the Samadhi Viharaya in Florence, Ven Dodandeniye Nandasiri Thera, Prema Panagoda, Malee Godigamuwa and Tissa Hettiarachchi were among the guests at the screening which was organisd by Lalith Hettiarachchi.
The film is still being screened in Sri Lanka. ‘Hima Tharaka’ is played by Jagath Chamila, Nadee Chandrasekara, Amarasiri Kalansuriya, Wimal Alahakoon, Maureen Charuni, Wasanthi Gunarathna, Miyuri Samarasinghe and Manel Wanaguru in the stellar cast.
The story revolves around a family which lives in England. The family returns to Sri Lanka but faces various problems.
The problems start in England but they continue in Sri Lanka as well. They get aggravated specially due to the attitude of the people who live in Sri Lanka and have a misconception about lives of locals living in foreign countries.
Behind the screen cinematography of ‘Hima Tharaka is handled by Kithsiri Hewage and Ranga kariyawasam and it is edited by Gayan Sampath and Mahendra Senarathna.
Produced by Kanthi Alahakone, ‘Hima Tharaka’ is the first script written by Marlon Widanapathirana.
The film was shot in and around the locations in Moronthuduwa and Bandaragama.
Rodney started his film career as the third assistant director of ‘Chanchala Rekha’ directed by Sena Samarasinghe.
Having made three films so far, his previous film ‘Ira Sevaya’ was released last year.
