Gem Arcade: Latest dazzle in town
Opening their doors on November 15 was Colombo’s latest treasure trove, Gem Arcade down Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 3.
Those driving or walking past will catch a glimpse of a simple white building, little realising the treasures that lie within! Strategically marketing themselves as “Colombo’s premier one-stop gems and jewellery mall”, Gem Arcade will feature a range of jewellery collections from four of Sri Lanka’s renowned jewellers; Alkara, Ceyital, Fine Gems and Zam Gems. It is the brainchild of tourism entrepreneurs Shaheen Nazeer and Zakraf Shafee, who quickly identified the need for a one-stop shopping mall for customers of high-end gems and jewellery.
“Sri Lanka has a reputation for having some of the world’s best known gems,” said Zakraf, adding “it is important that we maintain this reputation.”
Shaheen commented “Having been in the tourism industry for over a decade, we see a huge demand for quality gems and jewellery.” Following the government’s endorsements in promoting the gem and jewellery industry as a source of foreign exchange earnings, “We have now taken on the exciting opportunity of providing this service,” he said.
