Sri Lanka’s Panditha Bandara honoured in Papua New Guinea
View(s):Sri Lankan professional P.M.N. Bandara has received the ‘Member of Logohu’ award from the Governor General of Papua New Guinea Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae at the investiture ceremony held at the Government House in PNG recently.
Mr. Bandara is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Head of Accounting Division of the University of Papua New Guinea. The award, he said in a note to the Business Times, has been awarded for his contribution to higher education particularly accounting profession and accounting education in PNG during the last 16 years.
Mr. Bandara says he has been instrumental in introducing accounting to the secondary schools, restructuring bachelor of accounting degree program, introducing new degree programmes in accounting. Further he has initiated partnership programmes with local and overseas professional and academic institutions.
He has been actively involved in distance education in accounting, secondary school teacher training, development of accounting and business skills for grassroots.
Prior to take up his job in PNG he has written nearly 30 books in these subjects, served as founder and chief editor of “Arthika Vidya” fortnightly journal. He contributed newspapers by writing columns and leading articles in current business and economic affairs. Mr. Bandara is also the Hon. Consul for Sri Lanka in PNG.
