Old Wesleyites win Hameedians Futsal in Doha
View(s):Old Wesleyites Sports Club clinched the Hameedians’ Fantastic 5 Futsal Tournament Season 2 which was successfully conducted at the Pearling International School in Doha, Qatar recently. Old Wesleyites beat Maroons Football Club in the final in the competition played among the Sri Lankan community organised by the Qatar Branch Old Boys’ Association of Hameed Al Husseinie College, Colombo.
Old Wesleyites SC, who were the runners-up in the tournament’s 2016 edition turned the tables on the defending champions, Maroons FC to transform the fortune in their favour. The winning team’s Manoj Siriwardena was adjudged the Best Player while Mohamed Shiyam of Maroons FC was named the Best Goalkeeper.
The third place playoff was won by Everocks Football Club, who beat Fantastic Sports Club in a cliffhanger. The Fair Play Team award went to Naser Bin Nawaf Football Club. In addition to the main competition, an exhibition match was played among the Under-12 footballers of Stafford Sri Lanka School in Doha.
The opening ceremony was graced by Hussain Ali, the Sports Manager of Being Kind Foundation. The tournament kicked off with the national anthem of Sri Lanka and the school anthem of Hameed Al-Husseinie College.
The chief guest at the awards ceremony Rasamunira Ramil from Abdullah Abdulghani Bro. Co, handed over the trophy to the winners. Among other guests of honour were Kumudu Fonseka of Stafford Sri Lanka School in Doha, Mohamed Ali of Al Jaber Watches and Naleer of Europe Textiles and Tailoring.
