View(s):A holiday outing
During the April holidays, our family went on a trip to Hong Kong. When we reached the airport, we got on to a tour bus. We went to a hotel and went inside our rooms and rested for a while and then when shopping.
The next day we went on a city tour. We learnt a lot of information. We had lunch at an Indian hotel. After leaving our bags in our room, we went to Disneyland. I couldn’t believe the characters I saw. Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Belle, Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck and lots of other characters. I got the signatures from the characters in my autograph book and also I took photographs with them too.
There were lots of rides. We even played with water. We watched a Mickey Mouse 3D show. We saw ‘Disney on Parade’. The parade was colourful and beautiful. Next we watched ‘The Lion King’ show. We watched a storybook character show too. Some of the characters like Mickey, Minnie, Beast and Beauty acted and danced on the stage. At 8.30 p.m., there was a fireworks display near the castle. It was really colourful and enjoyable. I enjoyed all four lands at Disney – Fantasy land, Tomorrow land, Main Street USA and Adventure land.
I will never forget this trip in my life.

The happiest day in my life
My ambition is to be a software and hardware engineer as well as a programmer. An IT expert, I’d say.
After I finish my A/L’s in school, I hope to go to a university for a degree and pursue my education in ICT. Job opportunities are rare for software engineers in Sri Lanka. So I wish to go abroad to work and develop my career. I intend to go to Australia and work there. I can help the poor if I become rich. I hope to engage in research work as well and make new computers and develop new versions of PC’s. I will make robots to work for us.
Then I’ll be famous all over the world for my inventions. I would get offers from many countries to join them in research. I’d start a company of my own and it might become a huge success. My family will be proud of me. I will help them to come to Australia. I’d earn a million a month.
I can become the richest person in the world.
My plan is to send a part of my income to research on robotics. I’d send them to space. I’d be recognised as one of the best in the field of robotic technology. I might even be nominated as a Nobel Prize Winner. My parents and my school will be proud of my achievement.
The day I become recognised as an IT expert in the world and bring fame to my motherland Sri Lanka, will be ‘the happiest day in my life’.

Taking part in a Guinness World Record attempt
I arrived at my class one morning, after a lengthy bout of illness, and received news that I could hardly believe; 2000 students from my school – Royal College, Colombo 7 – were to take part in a Guinness World Record attempt. The mission was to release 2000 water rockets at the same time.
In order to take part in the attempt, we had to walk to the school sports complex. Initially, I thought the rockets were going to be released automatically but when we finally queued up to go into the grounds I realised that it was going to be done manually. As there were so many people, it took nearly an hour to enter the grounds. Then we had to run to our water rockets as though they were going to take off without us – they didn’t, thank goodness!
I was having kittens worrying that my attempt would go wrong and everyone would make fun of me. So when the countdown started, I pulled the string and Bingo! My water rocket had gone so high into the air that once they’d all landed, I couldn’t find it. Unfortunately we had to wait for the next 15 minutes to exit the premises, but I met up with a mate and we walked back to school together. I was knackered, but pleased to have been part of the attempt.

Environmental pollution
Environmental pollution is the condition when the natural cycles of
our environment get disturbed and harm us. Pollution is classified into many categories according to the natural resources getting affected, such as air pollution, soil pollution, water pollution, noise pollution etc. Rate of pollution is increasing due to the selfishness of the human being to earn more money and
to fulfill some unnecessary wishes.
In the modern era when technological advancement is given more priority by the people, everyone has forgotten the environment.
Continuous and unnecessary cutting down of trees, urbanization and large production through industrialization has been involved as huge causes of the pollution. Harmful and poisonous waste create changes to the soil, air and we both are incomplete without the help of each other. We should try our best to maintain a healthy environment in order to continue the natural processes easily.

My hobby
My hobby is reading. Reading provides us a good education. My favourite book is ‘Arabian Nights’. There is a mini library in my class. I used to read each and every book there. There are funny things as well as important ones. Whenever, wherever, I see a book, I will read it. All teachers like my reading. Even if there are storybooks which are hard to read,
I will try.
At that time I remember this,
“Try and try, one day you can fly.” So, reading makes me smart. Reading is very interesting. I love reading. Reading is a path to lead into a better life.

My new friend
It was our Singithi Pola day. I went there with some items. I sold them. After, our teacher gave permission to buy something from the pola. We walked around. I saw a strange thing. My mother bought it for me. Now it’s my new friend. It’s a toy called ‘flying space man.’ It has three wings like a helicopter. It can fly. After school I’m playing with it. It’s wearing a red and blue dress. I’m keeping it in a safe place because I love it very much.
