Eshan Pieris does it again
Eshan Pieris once again did Sri Lanka proud wining the X30 Senior Class in the Macau International Kart Grand Prix 2017 held last weekend in China. This is one of Asia’s most prestigious karting races. Taking on top drivers from Australia, Philippines, China, Singapore and the rest of Southeast Asia, he took the chequered flag 6.134 seconds before Royce Yu from China. Jacob Ang from Philippines came in third.
It was a great race weekend for Eshan, who qualified in second position, due to a red flag as result of an accident during his qualifier which caused him to lose the advantage on new tyres. He then went on to win the first heat, then the second heat and the pre-finals before taking a well-deserved win in the finals, much to the delight of the small Sri Lankan community who were in attendance.
Last year’s Asian Karting Open Championship in Macau saw Eshan leading the race from lap 6 to 18 but finishing just behind Marc Tulloch from Australia to take second place, which naturally made this year’s win even sweeter.
Eshan was, as always, quick to give credit to his Manager Aaron Lim and his mechanic Richard Raj who he termed the ‘dream team’ behind his success. Presently an undergraduate at the Monash University in Malaysia, Eshan represents the RL Karting Team from Malaysia. He is a former student of S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia.
