‘Underpants Thief’ wins award in Delhi
View(s):Dr. Somarathna Dissanayake’s latest film ‘Underpants Thief‘ (Jangi Hora) was adjudged the Best Film at the ‘Cinema Across the Borders’ section at the 5th Delhi International Film Festival.
The festival which was held from December 4 to 9 featured films from 174 countries.
Revolving around a young man who is obsessed with women’s underpants, ‘Underpants Thief’ tells the story of Sam who shows signs of mental illness. He causes trouble by stealing the neighbours’ panties and touching the panties of passing women. Sam’s brother Mahesh and his wife Nayani stay at Sam’s mansion for a long time.
Mahesh is planning to turn Sam’s mansion into a hotel. A psychiatrist suggests that if Sam gets married, his symptoms will disappear. However, if Sam gets married, the ownership of the mansion will go to Sam’s wife, so Mahesh doesn’t accept the doctor’s advice.
Pubudu Chathuranga, Dilhani Ashokamala, Chinthaka Kulatunga and Buddhi Randeniya star in the movie. Camera direction is by Vishva Balasuriya. Music composed by Rohana Weerasinghe and vocals by Visharada Shashikha Nissansala and Visharada Harshana Dissanayake. ‘Underpants Thief’ is produced by Renuka Balasuriya.
The film was earlier screened at the Busan International Film Festival, South Korea.
Granted permission to screen with ‘adults only’ certification by the Public Performance Control Board, this is Dr. Somaratne Dissanayake first film for the category.
