Badges for environmental society of Akaragama Gemunu K.V.

A ceremony to award badges to the environmental society of Akaragama Gemunu K.V. was held recently with the participation of the Director of the Environmental Authority from the Gampaha District, Viyani Abevita as chief guest.
Addressing the gathering she said “one of the root causes of natural disasters was the destruction of fauna and flora. A good lesson we can all learn is from children. Children love nature. They always try to be out in the open breathing fresh air, playing by a stream with fish glistening in the sun. This shows how important the environment is for the development of the child both physically and mentally. In this sense the children of this environmental society can play a big role in society. So please carry on this task and have a green environment”.
There were many eye catching creative designs used for planting flowers and creepers. They could be seen placed almost everywhere in the premises. The principal and the teacher in charge of the environmental society had taken a keen interest in forming the society.
The others who graced the occasion were the officers of the Environmental Authority, Gampaha – Commissioner Radha Senasinghe and Environment Officer Amithodana.
