Only 56 persons were prosecuted this year in cases filed by Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption, latest statistics from the Commission revealed.

This year 89 cases were concluded while 73 cases involving bribery and corruption were referred to court. The cases concluded this year include cases filed earlier.

According to the progress report of the Commission, of the 2,590 complaints received by the CIABOC this year, 1,549 were forwarded for investigation. The complaints were divided into three main categories — bribery (392), corruption (912) and possession of illegal assets (169).

The Commission says that after thorough investigations, it filed 32 bribery and corruption cases in magistrates’ courts while 41 cases in High Courts were prosecuted in High Courts for non declaration of assets and taking bribes.
