Ananda cruise to comfortable win at Ananda Mawatha
Pasindu, Avisha shine in Maris Stella’s big win
Ananda bowlers Asel Sigera (5 for 47), Daminda Reshan (3 for 13) and Kamesh Nirmal (2 for 52) shared nine wickets to help Ananda record a convincing outright win by 131 runs against Dharmapala Pannipitiya at Ananda Mawatha, yesterday.
Dharmapala – chasing a target of 310 runs for victory was making steady progress at one point, but lost quick wickets at the latter stages of the innings and were bowled out for 188.
On day one, Ananda too did not do well with the bat in their first innings and were bowled out for only 136 runs. But, Shamal Hirushan 6 for 10 and Dushan Hettige 3 for 7 made a combined effort to see that the visitors scored only 42 runs in their first inning.
Ananda in their second inning declared their inning on 225 for 5 with Dushan Hettige (59), top scoring.
Pasindu Ushetti and Avisha Keshan shone for Maris Stella as the duo guided the side to record a massive innings and 149-run win over President’s College Kotte.
Pasindu ended with an impressive bowling figures of 6 for 34 to end with a match bag of nine wickets and Avishka bagged three scalps as the duo combined to skittle out President’s Kotte for a paltry 70 runs in their second essay.
Earlier in the day, Maris Stella continuing from their overnight score of 276 for 5 made a mammoth score of 413 runs with Lasith Croospulle making a top score of 104.
Sri Sumangala Panadura was home for lunch when they defeated St John’s Jaffna by an innings and 30 runs in the match which ended at St John’s ground in Jaffna yesterday.
The Sumangalians in reply to the Johnians score of 96 made 204. Johnians batting the second time with a deficit of 108 runs put in another pathetic batting performance and collapsed for a low score of 78.
There were three other outright wins recorded with Holy Cross Kalutara recording an innings and 160 runs against Revatha MMV Balapitiya at Kalutara, Piliyandala Central securing an eight wicket win over Sri Dharmaloka MV Kelaniya at Piliyandala and Vidyartha crushing Taxila Central Horana by ten wickets at Horana.
In the match which got underway at Thurstan ground saw DSS after being in deep trouble against Thurstan on 90 for 7 recovering to end with a respectable score of 173 while Thurstan ended day making a bold reply of 132 for 3.
