Chilaw Marians cruised through to their second outright win when they outclassed Army SC by an innings and 197 runs in the Premier Tier A inter-club cricket encounter concluded at the FTZ ground in Katunayake yesterday.
The writing in the wall was on the soldiers as they had the daunting task of erasing a mammoth 385 runs to avoid an innings defeat. However at one point, Army looked as if they were on their way to recovery when Dilshan de Soysa (62) and Kasun de Silva (51) were at the crease. But, the moment they made their departure, from 154 for 5, Army collapsed to 188 all out.
Left arm spinner Chanaka Komasaru ended with an impressive match bag of 12 for 73 thus paving the way for SLPA CC to coast to an innings and 139-run win over Badureliya CC at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona.
The foundation for SLPA CC’s win was laid by Maduka Liyanapathiranage who made an unbeaten 115 and Prashan Wickramasinghe who made 88 enabling SLPA CC make a formidable score of 359.
In contrast Badureliya CC batsmen were not able make any impression in both the innings. They were all out for 105 and 115 in their two innings.
Tons by Dimuth Karunaratne which was his second successive, Chamara Kapugedera and Minod Bhanuka saw SSC resuming from their overnight score of 395 for 5 amass a score of 459 for 8 declared in reply to CCC’s 314 runs to record a first innings win at the SSC ground.
A fighting knock of 152 not out by allrounder Suraj Randiv and Shashin Dilranga (84) added a match winning 189 for the seventh for BRC thus enabling them to contrive a fine first inning win over Tamil Union at the P. Sara Oval.
At one point of the BRC inning they were placed at a perilous 42 for 6 in reply to the Tamil Union first inning total of 314. BRC ended up with a first inning total of 332.
Bloomfield had to be satisfied with a first inning win over Moors SC at Reid Avenue.
