The last day at school

December 8 was the last day at school of Grade 5. It was a sad and memorable day for us. It was the day we had to bid farewell to our Primary Section.

My class teacher Mrs. Safiya Bongso was very busy with the year-end work load. We boys arranged a class party. We sang songs, played games, danced and enjoyed. Our teacher distributed the text books and the progress reports for us. I was in the 8th rank and was upset as I knew my parents wouldn’t be happy about it. But getting above 81 marks for all the subjects brought some relief for me.

When the bell rang, I felt sad to leave the Primary teachers who worked so hard in teaching us. I looked at my teacher for the last time in the Grade 5 class and said goodbye sadly. I felt that my teacher too waved goodbye to me with much pain.
I salute all my great teachers of the Primary Section of Zahira College for their untiring efforts in educating us.

If I had wings
If I had wings, I can fly to the moon. If I had wings I can fly through the mountains, lakes and rivers. I like to fly like a butterfly. I want pixie dust for my wings.
I like my wings.

My best trip
Last year, I went to Saudi Arabia with my mother to see my father. I enjoyed the flight a lot. My father was waiting for us at the airport.
My father took me to so many places in Saudi Arabia. We went to see the Sky Tower. It was hundreds of floors. We reached the top floor within a few seconds by the elevator. It was so beautiful to see the city from the top of the Sky Tower.

We had a sky walk there. We went to the zoo in Riyadh. I saw different kinds of animals and birds which we cannot see in Sri Lanka. On another day we went for a ride in a cable car and that was the first time in my life. I was very scared but I liked the ride.

We went to several shopping malls too. I played a lot of games in the play areas and won some prizes. We went to the toy shop and bought my favourite Shopkins toys. I bought some gifts for my friends too. I enjoyed a lot with my father and I was so happy. That was the best trip ever.

My trip to Australia
Last December my family made a trip to Australia. I was very happy but to be frank a bit of scariness came to my feelings. We felt very comfortable in the Business Class. We enjoyed the delicious delicacies on board. My uncles and aunties and cousins were there at the destination to welcome us.

As we got down we felt very, very cold. The large and smooth highways were full of traffic but with no sound of horns. One day we went to see the penguins. Also I saw many seals when I went on a boat ride in the seas. We enjoyed in the Lunar Park. The large shopping centres were very crowded.

e came back after a one month stay and that was my best trip ever.

A tree speaks
I am a green colour with a lot of leaves and branches. I provide many things to nature
and humans.
I give shade, flowers, fruits, medicine and fresh air. I am one of the best friends of animals and humans. Some humans treat me badly.

My leaves give fresh air to breathe to humans and animals. I provide food to eat for people. I provide shelter for people to protect them from hot sun and thunder storms and heavy rains. My roots protect my mother Earth. I help to make the environment beautiful. People use me to make chairs, tables, books etc. Monkeys are good friends of mine. They use my branches to jump here and there. Birds and squirrels build nests on my branches to protect their young ones.

The Earth
We live on a large, rocky surface called the Earth. The planet seems important for us because we live on it. But when we compare it with the sheer immensity of the universe, it is just a tiny speck.

The Earth is one of the eight planets that revolve round the Sun, which is an average-sized star. And there are billions of stars in the universe. The Earth is very beautiful. We must respect it more than our lives.

The Earth consists of air, water and plants. This is the only planet in the universe where organisms or living things exist. Therefore, we must respect our Earth more than our lives for giving us a good, safe home for us to live.

My home garden
People do gardening as a hobby or a business. Some people get money from gardening. Gardening gives us mental and physical skills.

I have a big garden in my home. There are a lot of vegetables and fruits in the garden. Daily in the evening I water the plants. Lots of bees, butterflies, birds and animals such as rabbits, rats and squirrels come to my garden.
My garden gives me a lot of vegetables, fruits. Gives good breathing air. It takes care of the environment and it is a good home to some birds and animals.

My village is Rambukkana. It is a very beautiful village. It is situated in Kegalle District. Our village belongs to Sabaragamuwa Province.
There is a beautiful river flowing through the village. It helps farmers to grow paddy, fruit and vegetables. And it gives water for our needs. The river gives beauty to my village. There is a zoo in Rambukkana. A lot of people come to visit various kinds of animals in it. Helpless and injured elephants are kept in the elephant orphanage in Rambukkana.
