Education Dept. earns over Rs 54m by issuing certificates
View(s):The Education Dept. has earned over Rs 54 million last year through the issuance of certificates to candidates of National exams conducted by the Exams Dept. The Annual Report 2016 states a sum of Rs 54,729,000 has been earned by issuing certificates for the GCE Ordinary Level, Advanced Level, Buddhist Dhamma Teachers Exams and Technical Exams held.
Accordingly, a sum of Rs 47,020,200 was received for issuing 118,361 certificates for the first time. Candidates were charged Rs 500 for every certificate issued from Jan.1-Sept.14, 2016. Thereafter the fee has been raised to Rs.600.
For issuing 28,864 additional copies, the Education Dept. earned Rs 6,203,900, while it earned Rs. 632,00 for issuing 2,264 foreign and local requirement certificates through normal service, with additional copies issued earning Rs 60,700.
Apart from this income, revenue was also generated by searching index numbers under the 1-Day Service, with Rs 589,950 earned to search 5143 units. Mailing 1-Day Service certificates to universities overseas has earned Rs 169,700. Online services too is provided, for which Rs.45,000 has been received by the Dept. (CC)
