STC Mt. Lavinia down STC Prep by 164 runs
S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia beat St. Thomas’ Preparatory School Colombo comfortably by 164 runs to win the inaugural Under-15 cricket encounter played for the Guy de Alwis Memorial Trophy, at Mt. Lavinia last Sunday.
Put into bat first S. Thomas’ piled up 302 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 50 overs and bowled out St. Thomas’ Prep for a paltry 138 runs with nine overs to spare. For the winners right-handed batsman Aneesh Kamalchandra top scored with an elegant knock of 108 which came off 134 deliveries, inclusive of 11 fours and a six.
Yasiru Rodrigo followed up with a brilliant knock of 82 to held the Mt. Lavinia team pile up a commanding total.
In their run chase, St. Thomas’ Prep lost wickets regularly despite Yorick Thirimanne holding on to top score with 48. Ruwin Kodagoda, who captured two wickets, returned to make 24 with the bat. The visitors were demolished by brilliant bowling spells by Manith Perera, who captured five wickets and Nimeth Mehnuka, who grabbed three scalps.
