Final lap of Kart Race ‘X30 Asia Cup’ roared off today
Sri Lanka’s first ever international Kart Race ‘X30 Asia Cup’ was flagged off at the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit (SLKC), Bandaragama yesterday. The heats of five categories were worked off yesterday and the today will see the finals working off to decide the winners of the X30 Asia Cup.
Fifteen heats were worked off yesterday and the riders with the best timings will be on the track in the five categories today – Cadet Class (8 to 12 years), Junior Class (12 to 14 years), Senior Class (14 to 30 years) Masters and Veterans.
The picturesque and silent hamlet of Bandaragama was disturbed to the roaring sounds of the machines that sped through the newly laid track extending the length from 800 metres to 1,216 metres to international standards.
Forty drivers took part in the inaugural event from India, Singapore, China, India, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and hosts Sri Lanka. Nine drivers from Sri Lanka along with the other drivers will be in action today having with best timings.
Among the drivers to watch out today are Yevan David from Singapore who was the X30 SEA Cadet champion 2017 and Eshan Pieris of Sri Lanka who hold double honours as the Rotax Asia Max DD2 Vice Champion 2017 and X30 Macau International Senior Champion 2017.
Battling it out in the arena with Yevan and Eshan will be Prassetyo Harja from Indonesia who holds the Rotax Asia Max DD2 Championship 2017 title and the X30- SEA Senior Champion title 2017. Alex Brown of Singapore who won the X30 SEA Junior Championship 2016 and the Malaysian X30 Junior Champion 2016 has been hailed as challenge to the senior players in what likely to be an exciting battle for prominence.
