Sisters Nikini and Nethmi excel in Karate
Two sisters – eighteen-year-old Nikini Theekshana Jayalath (grade 13) and fourteen-year-old Nethmi Tharushika Jayalath (grade 9) are promising Karate players studying at Sri Sangamitta girls national school Matale.
By now they have achieved several victories in martial art at all island open karate championships held during the year 2017. Nikini Jayalath won a gold medal for her first place in the U/21 kumite while her sister Nethmi was successful in winning a bronze medal for her 3rd place in U/15 kumite at the national karate championship 2017 conducted by Sri Lanka Karate Do Association.
Nikini also won two medals, a gold for her first place in the U/21 kumite and then a silver medal for her second place in kata at the Matale district karate championship she was also the gold medal winner, for her first place in the U/21 kumite event at the central province karate championship held recently at the Peradeniya university indoor stadium.
Nethmi won two gold medals for her dazzling performances in both kata and kumite events in the U/15 age category at the Matale district open karate championship. Nethmi was selected to the eight best kata players of the central province. She is also a member of the U/15 netball team of Sri Sangamitta girl’s national school Matale. They were trained by Shihan Sarath Bandara.
