Offenders from 4,494 reports of fraud penalised
View(s):The Examinations Dept received 4,494 reports of fraud during National exams held in 2016, of which the Dept has dismissed 3,707 cases after investigations, while it had suspended or imposed penalties on 786 offenders, according to its 2016 Annual Performance Report (APR).
In a breakdown in its 2016 APR, it said that, at the 2016 GCE Ordinary Level exams, 1,648 cases of fraud were reported, of which 262 students had their results suspended.
In the 2016 GCE Advance Level exams, 506 cases of fraud were reported, of which 323 results were suspended or penalties imposed. The balance 182 results were released with 1 case pending before courts.
At the 2016 Grade 5 Scholarship exams, 12 cases of fraud were reported. However, no penalties were imposed and the results released on time.
There have been acts of fraud reported at institutional exams too, conducted for government service officers. At 2,328 exams held in 2016, 201 officers had their results suspended and penalties imposed, the report said. The number of officers barred from Exam duties, due to various offenses at exam and evaluation centres is 387.
