Games begin with unbeatable success
The ultimate sporting tournament for the members of Rotaract District 3220 Sri Lanka and Maldives, the Rotaract Champions League 2018, began on January 20 at the Royal College Sports Complex. The tournament is organised by the Rotaract District Committee for the fourth consecutive year in 2018 in order to test the team spirit and sporting skills of Rotaractors of the district while providing an opportunity for fellowship in a competitive atmosphere.
This year, the Rotaract Champions League is especially organised with the idea of recreating and redefining friendship through the movement, keeping in mind the brainchild of District Rotaract Representative, Rtr. PP Anuradha Senanayake: Engage Rotaract- Redefine Friendship. The tournament will span through four days, and the first two days were successfully completed last weekend.
The first day of Rotaract Champions League 2018 marked the beginning of the much awaited event with the opening ceremony where the event was declared open by District Rotaract Committee Chairperson Rtn. PHF, Bobby Srinivas. The day included events in badminton, carrom, chess, futsal and table tennis, and Rotaractors representing their clubs were immensely fruitful in their endeavours in displaying their talents.
The second day of the tournament, January 21, included two sporting events, handball, which was held at the Goal in Rajagiriya and swimming at the Thurstan College Swimming Pool Complex. Both sports were introduced to the tournament for the first time this year, and it was interesting to see Rotaractors engaging in them with great enthusiasm.
Rotaract Champions League will continue this weekend at the University of Colombo ground and will consist of another exciting line up of sports activities in basketball, tennis, tag rugby, athletics, cricket and tug-of-war.
