10-years-in-a-school teacher transfer improper: ACTSU
View(s):All Ceylon Teachers Services Union Secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe says the new programme to transfer teachers who have served more than 10 years in a school, is not being done in a proper manner. He said some teachers have been transferred to schools 50 km to 60 km away, and into areas sans residential facilities.
He said teachers in Advanced Level and Ordinary level classes have been transferred under the new program, while those teaching in Grades 6-11, numbering around 3,000 will be transferred this year. “We are not against the transfer of teachers, but we want it done methodically and in a manner they will not be traumatised,” he added.
“Some of the transfers have been done in violation of the Service Minute, with no room for appeal,” he said. Mr Jayasinghe alleged that, on some interview Boards, there are candidates contesting the forthcoming elections with teachers being intimidated by them. “We have written to the Elections Commission of the issues, and will take legal action in this regard,” he added.
