Subway Karaoke:James Corden, Sting and Shaggy in viral Grammy clip
View(s):He was the host with the most for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. But James Corden returned to one of his best known routines with the help of musicians Sting and Shaggy during a hilarious clip broadcast at the Grammys.
The three musical men were keen to create a viral version of Subway Karaoke among stereotypically unamused New Yorkers riding the underground. Sitting alongside Sting and Shaggy, James started singing ‘Every Breath You Take’ before passengers made sure to voice their disdain.
Sting strummed on an acoustic guitar while Corden pressed play on a small radio player in his lap.
Trying to feel out the crowd, the trio started performing Shaggy’s classic hit ‘It Wasn’t Me’, but riders were none too happy with the performance.
As the guys sing on the subway, a commuter apologised for not having any cash to tip the men.
“We’re not begging,” Corden screamed next to his new band. “We’re trying to create a viral moment!”
The passengers looked miserable before James admits, ‘This is backfiring guys. Let’s do something new.’
Just as the men seem to be making a little headway, a construction worker puts Corden in his place.
‘We’re trying to do something that’s fun and uplifting,’ Corden yells to the crowd.
‘How about you shut up and sit down,’ the muscular man tells James before the video pans to a bloodied Corden.
‘Who’s stupid idea was this?’ James asked the group. ‘It wasn’t me,’ Shaggy said, a nod to his famous 2000 hit.
Sting and Shaggy are set to release a joint album 44/876 on April 20.
