Sandaruwani Jayarathna bags highest award
View(s):Sixty three youngsters received school colours in recognition of their outstanding performances in the field of sports during the period 2016 and 2017 at the “Colours Awards” ceremony of Sri Sangamitta Girls National School, Matale held last week at the college auditorium.
‘Sports diadem’, the highest award and the proud recipient for this prestigious accolade was claimed by Sandaruwani Jayarathna who has excelled in the game of hockey.
Sandaruwani is a brilliant hockey player who represented her school with distinction. Her prowess with the curved stick earned her a place in the All-Island Schools, District, Provincial and National hockey pools.
The Central Provincial Governor, Niluka Ekanayake graced the occasion as the chief guest with an old girl of the school Premani Wegodapola, the Vice President of Sri Sangamitta OGA as the guest of honour.
This colourful event was organised by the school’s Sports Council under the guidance of principal Y.M.T. Kumarihamy with the OGA of the school as the main sponsor.
