Lavoisier House win overall championship
W.M.A.V. Wellawatta of Einstein House was adjudged the Best Male Athlete for his excellent performance in the Under-20 Boys’ 100m, 200m and long jump events while Onesha Kulasinghe of Lavoisier House, the winner in the Under-20 Girls’ 100m and 200m events was crowned the Best Female Athlete at the annual Inter-House Sports Meet 2018 of Government Science College Matale held at the college ground.
Lavoisier House finished on top with a tally of 549 points to emerge overall champions while Einstein House with 445 points was placed second followed by Darwin House third with a tally of 430 points.
The meet was held under the patronage of Deputy Director of Education (Sports) Matale Education Zone N.D.A. Hewawasam, who was the chief guest. A past teacher of the college R.V.A. Nawarathna (former District Scout Commissioner Matale) graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
The colourful drill display presented by girl athletes numbering over 250 thrilled the spectators while senior boys and girls led by the college western band gave a fine display at the march fast.
The event was well organised and it was attended by a large gathering. The school’s sports council organized the event under the guidance of principal C.N. Hettiarachchi. -
