‘Akarsha soon on cinema

‘Akarsha’, a love story set in the midst of Sri Lanka’s long drawn out war, will soon hit cinemas around the country.

Directed by Suneth Malinga Lokuhewa, the famed director of ‘Sinhawalokanaya’ , the film portrays a love affair between a beautiful Tamil music teacher and a Sinhala army officer.

The role of the Tamil teacher is played by South and North Indian actress Puja Umashankar who has become equally famous in Sri Lanka with her numerous roles in local cinema productions. Anyway ‘Akarsha’ is the first Sinhala film where Puja uses her original voice in a Sri Lankan film. Another special feature is that the male lead role of the army officer is being played by Yasas Ratnayake, son of former Army Commander Daya Ratnayake.

Others in the stellar cast are Maulee Mathisha, Sriyani Amerasena, Dushyantha Weeraman, W. Jayasiri, Douglas Ranasinghe, Dharshan Dharmaraj, Anandika Kumarasinghe, Charith Abeyssinghe, Nadaraja Sivam, Jayalal Rohana, Nalin Pradeep Uduwela and Ramani Siriwardena.

Behind the screen, the screenplay is written by Saman Weeraman and the film is jointly produced by Prabath Chaminda Perera, Harish Uddika Mahadiwulwewa, Nalin Nishantha Dharmapriya and Leel Prasanna Dissanayake for ‘Akarasha’ film productions. Prabath Rohana is the cinematographer, Shan Alwis editor, Ajith Hathwella did the art direction, Tharaka Adhikari is the makeup artist, Dharshana Ruwan Dissanayake is the music director, and the media coordinator is Anton J. Fernando.
