Sirio Ltd helps build storm affected houses in Badalgama
View(s):A leading export oriented apparel company in Badalgama, recently engaged in a CSR programme, providing financial assistance to restore 65 houses of company employees and people in the vicinity who suffered heavy losses due to the recent cyclonic storm at Badalgama.
Felix A. Fernando, CEO of Sirio and Group Director of Omega Line; Ms.H.M.L.S. Herath, Divisional Secretary, Divulapitiya; Ms. J.P.I.L. Jayakody – Katukenda Grama Niladhari, and Kolitha Ranatunga, OIC, Badalgama Police station, participated in the event.
Earlier representatives of Sirio Ltd met the victims of the disaster including company workers to assess the damage and costs to repair their houses, according to a company media release.
Financial assistance was done in three categories. In the first category, finances were provided to fully restore houses of 26 Sirio workers who live in Katukenda, Menikwatte, Diklanda, Heeralugedera, Agalegedera and Pethigoda. The second category saw financial assistance being provided to people of 15 houses in the vicinity.
In the third category, Sirio provided financial assistance to renovate houses of 23 families in the Katukenda Grama Seva Wasama, (where the company is situated), who took shelter temporarily in tents provided by the government.
In addition to this, on a humble request made by the Divisional Secretary, Divulapitiya, Sirio offered Rs. 100,000 to a poor mother with a son with disabilities who lost her house due to this natural disaster and was living in a temporary house.
Company CEO Mr. Fernando speaking at the event, said: “Because of this mutual relationship between residents of Badalgama and the Sirio company, we always come forward compassionately as a company to help these people when they have difficulties”.
