On the road again: Rolling Stones plan five stadium tour in UK
View(s):Veteran rockers The Rolling Stones announced they will do a five stadium tour of the UK commencing at the London Stadium on 22nd May as part of band’s No Filter tour. They will play in Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff and wind up on 19th June at the Twickenham Stadium, London.
Ed Sheeran has been named the bestselling global recording artist for 2017. The ginger haired artist was ranked number 1 by the IFPI (International Federation of Phonographic Industry) on 26th February. Sheeran 26 topped the ranking both from albums and singles. His achievement was due to the success of his album ‘÷’ (Divide). It was certified multi- platinum in 36 countries. His song ‘Shape Of You’ topped ranking for singles with multi-platinum status in 32 countries. Ranking are independently verified based on sales of albums digital, CD, vinyl, downloads, physical, on demand audio streams in a calendar year. The top 10 best globally selling artist for 2017 are: 1. Ed Sheeran, 2. Drake, 3. Taylor Swift, 4. Kendrick Lamar, 5. Eminem, 6. Bruno Mars, 7. Weeknd, 8. Imagine Dragons, 9. Linkin Park, 10. The Chainsmokers. The IFPI was founded in 1933 with its headquarters in London.
Kendrick Lamar & SZA had the highest advancing single of the week to the UK top singles chart with ‘All The Stars’ moving from 11 to No: 5. The hip hop /pop track is the lead track taken from the new Black Panther soundtrack. US r&b singer SZA dominates the vocal side of the song.
The song is rapper Lamar’s fifth UK top 10 on an overall countdown covering hits in his own right and as a featured artist. For SZA it is her debut appearance on the UK top 10.
‘FRIENDS’ a duet by US producer Marshmello and UK singer Anne- Marie advanced to the UK top 10 jumping 10 places.
The EDM/ pop track is third outing for Marshmello on the UK top 10. As usual he is wearing a white mask to cover his identity but we can say his real name is Christopher Comstrock. Anne- Marie is the vocalist. The song will be on Anne- Marie’s debut her album ‘Speak Your Mind’ which is due out on 27th April.
For a fifth week Drake’s ‘God’s Plan’ is the No: 1 song on the UK singles chart backed by a massive 7.6 million streams.
Pop star of yesteryear Lulu is returning to the London West End after 33 years to play Dorothy Brocks in the musical 42nd Street. The 69 year old who made her music debut with the hit song ‘Shout’ in 1964 is also known for her big US No: 1 hit ‘To Sir With Love’ from 1967.
Eddy Amoo of the 70’s r&b group The Real Thing passed away in Australia aged 74 on 23rd February. He was founding member of the group in Liverpool, England.
He was instrumental for the hit songs ‘You To Me Are Everything’, ‘Can You Feel The Force’ and ’Can’t Get By Without You’ as a member of The Real Thing.
