Keen tussle expected at Panadura tomorrow
A keen tussle is expected at the Swarna-Neela 2nd cricket encounter played between Wadduwa Central Girls’ College and Mahanama Navodya Girls’ School scheduled to be played at the Panadura Esplanade tomorrow.
The two schools riding high in the girls’ cricket arena as both teams have shown tremendous improvement from last year. In the inaugural match played at the same venue Wadduwa Central Girls scored a convincing victory.
Wadduwa Central led by Hashini Savindya a fine right arm off spinner is expected to trouble the Mahanama lasses who is also a front line batter with a sharp eye. Nethmi Poornima and Ishani Hansika are the other two batswomen who were responsible in posting respectable totals. These three fearless batswomen who will cope any attack with such confidence that the opponent bowlers main responsible is to keep them quite.
Studded with four all-rounders in skipper herself, Denushi Dhananjana, Nethmi Poorna and Navodya Nethmini who had rendered yeoman service in batting and with the ball as well. These four lasses rise to any situation in unsettling the opponents.
With a strong spin combination spearheaded by skipper Hashini Savindya, Navodya Nethmini and the orthodox left arm spinner Tharushi Sanjana will have to be watched carefully when they take over the attack after fast bowlers Nethimi Poorna, Chamini Nirasha and Rashmi Nadeeshika rip through the front line.
Much is expected from Nawodya Nethmini, a Western Province Under 19 player along with District players – Hashini Sawindya, Chamini Nirasha and Nethmi Poorna in this big encounter.
With seven allrounders in the forefront Mahanama Navodya Girls School takes the field under the leadership of Sanduni Lakmali, a fine batter with over four hundred runs to her credit leads the batting with another four hundred run scoring deputy skipper Sachini Umega.
Openers Sanduni Nimalsha and Dilithi Lakshini are expected to give the Mahanama lasses a good start for a respectable total making way for the fast bowlers and spinners to perform their duties smoothly.
The seven allrounders in the side are Sanduni Lakmali, Sachini Umega Ayodya Saradha, Savindi Nimasha, Thilakshi Sansala and Sachini Umega.
Three fearsome fast bowlers in Sanduni Lakmali, Sachni Umega and Savindi Nimalsha who works out a lot of pace off the wicket are sure to get the early breakthrough as usually they do.
The spin department will be led by left arm spinner Chanchala Dewmini with nearly 30 wickets and will be supported by right arm off spinner Thulakshi Sansala.
Sanduni Lakmali is a member of the District Provincial team while Chanchala Dewmini was a member of the Sri Lanka Girls Under-19 Pool. The school boasts of seven District Players.
