View(s):My best friend
My best friend is Zahara Soewito. She is 12 years old. She is a pleasant, amazing, pretty looking girl. She is very kind-hearted to me and to my friends. Her favourite food is pizza and she likes to drink milk. Her favourite colour is blue. She is fair and has a pony coloured hair. She is much taller than me. Her hobby is just becoming angry. I love it because even when we fight we talk and solve it by ourselves.
Her ambition is to be a pilot one day. She likes to dress in skirts and blouses and heels. She has an elder brother called Shmahil. I have lots of friends but not like Zara. She is very clever and she even teaches me sums and workings. I hope we will be the best friends and I thank God for giving me a best friend as lovely as her. Some people call us the ‘Best Sisters’. I love Zara so much and she loves me too!

How I spent my school vacation
On December 8, 2017 we got our school vacation. I was so happy. In the vacation our relations came to our home. I couldn’t wait till I got home from school. I went to school for concert practices during the vacation.
My father, mother, sister and I went to Randeniwala Hotel. It was so big. There was a swimming pool too. I felt very happy. It was cold there. I went to Ambewala Farm. I saw cows and rabbit. I touched the rabbits. The place was a bit stinky.
After that I went to swim.
My sister and I played with a ball. There was a small puppy. It was brown in colour. I like it. I played with it too. I rode on a horse.
It was like Black Beauty. I liked it.
I enjoyed the trip very much.

My hobby
My hobby is something that is very interesting. It improves my English. My hobby is reading books and newspapers. Every day I wait till the newspapers comes home. I start reading from the Education page to other interesting things. I also read the Funday Times every Sunday. I read books such as Harry Potter, Secret Seven etc. While I am reading, I find some hard words and I write them in my notebook. Then I refer the dictionary. I use those words when I write essays.
I borrow books from my school library. My father buys books too. My uncles and aunts usually gift me books on my birthday. I have a collection of books. Some are my sister’s books. One day I would like to be an author.

Money
Money means currency notes and coins. Before the usage of money, the Barter System was in existence. This meant the exchange of goods for some other goods. In other words it was a method of purchase by exchange. The barter system could not exist for long as for example it is rather awkward to drive a goat into a town to be used as money. Britain used iron rings as money. Alexander the Great was the first ruler to have his portrait stamped on coins.
The coinage or making or money is generally carried out by the government of each country. Gold coins are known as the standard coin for they are real coins which represent the amount worth. It is that a British Sovereign is accepted at its full value in any country in the world.
As coins are a ‘nuisance’ big business banks were established in most countries. Then the usage of cheques came in.
A cheque is a legal tender, a negotiable instrument which contains a promise to pay the bearer on demand. Each cheque is liable for a stamp duty. The person who writes out a cheque should be confident that there is sufficient money in his bank account. Though money rules the world, it is the root of all evils. Whatever it is, a better distribution of money will certainly make the world a happier place to live in.

The story of a tree
Just being a tiny shoot, a plant is very helpful because it’s helping its type from dying out. While it grows, it breathes in carbon dioxide and produces oxygen which we breathe. It provides us medicine. Ayurvedic medicine is often obtained from plants. It also gives us food; fruits and vegetables. It also prevents soil erosion, as it holds the soil. Thus it completes its services during its lifetime.
As time flies, the tree grows old. It wears out. But it still gives us help. It sacrifices its own body for timber. We use this timber as firewood, to build furniture, for fireplaces and many other purposes. Trees generally also provide shelter, keep the environment cool and provide shade.
So, you see that one single tree can give life to many lives. So preserve many, give life to billions of lives. A tree is very helpful for living. Its parts, every part, provides us a service. So preserve trees forever.

Life in a big city
Life in a big city is relatively easy but complex. A city offers its dwellers a lot of facilities. There is a better transport system and good medical facilities. A child can receive education in a school with all the facilities necessary for studies. Buying basic requirements is not a problem at all. There are many opportunities for recreation and entertainment.
But living in a big city has a negative side as well. Life totally depends on money. One has to buy everything spending money. Life is busy and has no peace of mind. There is so much noise and pollution. So life in a big city has both advantages and disadvantages.

Our school trip to Mahiyangoda
On Friday morning at 5.45 a.m., we left from our school to go to Mahiyangana. We went along the Digana road passing many beautiful places. It took about four hours for us to reach our destination along the 18 bends. First we went to the Mahiyangana temple. We offered flowers and worshipped the Lord Buddha.
Then we went to see the Sorabora Wewa. We had our lunch there. After that we went to Dambana Village to see the veddhas. They performed a dance. We came back to school at about 6.30 p.m.
We all enjoyed our trip very much.
