Former CMC chief posted to WPC “without a designation or any duties”
View(s):Former Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Commissioner V.K.A. Anura has been posted to the Western Provincial Council (WPC) “without a designation or any duties.”
Mr Anura confirmed that he had received a letter from the Western Province Governor’s office informing him to report to the WPC “with immediate effect.” He however, said he has not been given a designation or assigned any duties at the council.
Western Province Governor K.C. Logeswaran removed Mr. Anura from his post of CMC Commissioner last week. The decision was taken following recommendations made by the Presidential Committee appointed to probe the Meethotamulla garbage dump tragedy, Mr Logeswaran told the Sunday Times last Saturday.
Lalith Wickramaratne has been appointed as acting CMC Commissioner.
On Monday, some officers and workers at the CMC had protested against Mr. Anura’s removal, claiming that the removal had been politically motivated.
