Sebs overcome Cambrians easily
View(s):St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa playing in a very professional approach beat their arch rivals Prince of Wales in the 33rd limited over encounter this year at the De Soysa Stadium, this week end. This is the 4th consecutive win by the Sebastianites.
Leading the way was their skipper Tharusha Fernando who bowled and fielded splendidly taking 3 catches and brought in some intelligent bowling changes which saw the downfall of the Cambrian batsman. The Sebastianite spinners bowled intelligently to a well set field kept the Cambrian batsmen guessing after being comfortably placed at 70 for 3 in the 19th over. The opening bowlers Tashik Perera and Janishka Perera made the initial breakthroughs taking a wicket apiece and then the spinners Praveen Cooray and Praveen Jayawickrama took two wickets each for 20 and 21 respectively for the Sebastianites. St. Sebastian’s gave a splendid display in fielding producing three run outs.
Cambrians made 163 for 9 wickets in their allotted 50 overs with Prince Fernando 40 in 76 balls and Sanoj Darshika 38 in 59 balls being the chief run-getters.
St. Sebastian’s in their reply paced their innings well and was led from the front by their skipper Tharusha Fernando who made a gritty 52 not out in 105 balls. He was ably assisted by Janishka Perera who remained unbeaten with 34 in 58 balls engaging in an unbeaten fifth wicket stand of 62 runs with his skipper. Vishwa Chathuranga claimed 2 for 32 for the Cambrians. The Sebastianites overtook the Cambrian score in 46.1 overs to clinch the game making 166 for 4 winning by 6 wickets.
The Sebastianite skipper Tharusha Fernando was named the ‘Man of the Match’ for his all-round performance.
