Water pollution

If you remember the famous
Exxon Valdez case, you know how damaging oil can be when spilled into water. But oil is not the only culprit. Water pollution is one of the main forms of pollution. It is the contamination of water bodies. Water pollution is a major global problem which requires ongoing evaluation and revision of water resources policy at all levels. It has been suggested that it is the leading worldwide cause of deaths and disease and that it accounts for the deaths of more than 14,000 people per day.

Water is typically referred to as polluted when it is impaired by anthropogenic contaminants and either does not support a human use. Health effects of drinking or swimming in unclean water can cause vomiting or diarrhoea, a sick stomach, skin rashes and even cancer.
We can reduce such problems by using non-toxic products, refrain from throwing litter into streams, rivers lakes and seas, using environment-friendly house-hold products etc. Avoiding the pollution of water is one of our responsibilities.

All about mum
My mum’s name is Chamini. She cooks food for us. She helps us to do our homework. She buys things for us. She sleeps next to me. She picks me from school. She helps us have a wash. She washes all the clothes every day.  She takes us to the playground. She likes to play with us. When she plays jokes, she laughs.

She loves spending time with us. She helps me to do glass painting. She doesn’t like to be fat. She loves me. I love her too! There are two things I love to do with my mum. It’s to have a flower hug and kisses.

Flowers
Flowers can bloom
When there is the moon
In the night
In the day time
Flowers can bloom

Bees buzz and coo
And they take honey too
Butterflies come and fly away
At the end of the day

Flowers are so soft to touch
And I love them very much

Water is our life
Water is a gift from Mother Nature. We get water from rain, rivers, streams, tanks, wells fountains and taps. Water is useful. All living beings and plants need water to survive.

People require water for different purposes. We can live a few days without food but we can’t live without water. We need water for our daily activities like bathing, cooking and washing. In addition water is a must for agricultural purposes. We don’t get any food if there is no water.
We need to protect our water resources as water is our life. Water is the life blood of the earth. It’s very useful to man.

Man and animals can’t live without water. The amount of drinkable water in the world is only 1%.
Water adds to the beauty of nature as waterfalls and rivers. Water has no colour.
It is our duty to protect water.
So we have to use water very carefully. Do not waste water.

My favourite event at the sportsmeet
Badminton is my favourite event at the sportsmeet because it makes me stay active throughout the day. Playing badminton requires speed, strength and precision. When we play the game with our opponent we feel energetic throughout the day. At the end of the game one player has to be the winner.

I started playing badminton when I was only ten years due to several reasons. My best friend was a great badminton player so she kept on encouraging me to join her during her practice sessions. I learned most of my skills by observing my friend playing in tournaments where she usually emerged as the winner. I also developed an interest in playing badminton because after playing we feel relaxed and get rid of stress.

Playing badminton is easy. All we need is two rackets and a shuttlecock. The shuttlecock that acts as a ball is made from goose feathers attached to a small piece of cork. The rackets are lightweight. Badminton is played on a rectangular court, divided into half using a net. Players need a lot of energy to ensure that the shuttlecock crosses over the net towards the opposite side.

The game badminton was derived from the house of ‘Duke Beaufort’, in England where the first game was played.

Value of reading
It is said in Charles Darwin’s Magnum Opus in the ‘Origin of Species’, apart from the five senses of man the sixth sense is wisdom, which is exclusive for human beings. It was a famous English philosopher Francis Bacon, who said that “reading maketh a man.” Thus, reading has become a contributory factor for rapid social and intellectual development of man.

Every year a book exhibition is held at BMICH. When our president graced the occasion he explained and emphasized the importance of reading and also.
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook and one of the richest men in the world exhorts people to read and develop themselves.
Reading is a vessel, which navigates the ocean of knowledge which is bigger than the Pacific Ocean. Also by reading we can promote our language process, writing skills etc. I have heard the saying that ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’. Reading is not confined to one sphere but we can read for pleasure and as a hobby.

Reading helps us to gain knowledge on other cultures and traditions and learn about their origins. Reading is the food which nourishes our brain so by reading we can have a healthy mind in a healthy body.
