Hameed Al Hussainie and Zahira to meet at the final
Hameed Al Hussainie and Zahira College Colombo will clash in the grand final for the President Cup Schools Invitational Football final to be played at the Racecourse ground today. Kick off will be at 5.00pm.
Hameed Al Hussainie will be led by M.F.M. Amaan and Zahira is skippered by M.F.M. Aakib. Both teams possess some of the best players and both are well balanced units.
Both teams have met twice including a final in the past in this tournament and on both occasions Zahira had the better of Hameed Al Hussainie. But it does not mean that Zahira will be favourites this year around. Hameed Al Hussainie capable of turning the tables are all out to take revenge on Zahira for the two losses in the past.
All in all its going to be a ding dong battle and a vast crowd of supporters are expected to witness this game. Before the finals the third place match will kick off at 4.00pm at the same venue. St. Benedict’s College Kotahena and De Mazenod College Kandana will fight for third place.
Champions will receive the President Trophy plus gold medals and certificates. The runner-up and third place teams will receive medals and certificates. Apart from these the Man of the final will receive a special award while the best goal keeper will get the golden glow and the highest goal scorer will be awarded the Golden Boot. The Most Valuable Player will receive a trophy plus a two way ticket to Malaysia.
President Maithripala Sirisena is expected to grace the final. This tournament is organised by the 80 club of Hameed Al Hussainie for the 11th time in running.
