State-of-the-art ‘Technology Centre’ for St. Patrick’s, Jaffna
View(s):A state-of-the-art ‘Technology Centre’ at St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna, was declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday. The Centre, constructed at a cost of Rs 30 million, funded by the College’s local and expatriate past pupils, will assist students with the Technology subjects.
While vesting the new ‘Technology Centre’ with the student community of St. Patrick’s College, President Sirisena urged the audience to be aware of elements trying to disrupt the ongoing reconciliation process in the country, to capture political power. President Sirisena in a symbolic gesture, handed over Letters of Appointment to 10 Graduate teachers, from the Letters of Appointment to 197 Graduate teachers in the North.
“Strengthening the Free Education by all means is the responsibility of the government and accordingly, all new Educational policies will be taken while strengthening Free Education,” President Sirisena said, while noting that graduates have resolved to take to the streets, demanding jobs, due to institutional flaws in some government departments.
He also noted that, during his recent trip to Japan, he learned there is a huge demand in Japan for Graduates with Technical expertise, which opportunity, qualified Sri Lankan Graduates could use in the future.This was one of the issues discussed with the Japanese prime minister, during his recent visit to Japan.
Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Roman Catholic Bishop of Jaffna Justin Bernard Gnanapragasam, Leader of the Opposition, R. Sampanthan, Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran, Members of Parliament Angajan Ramanahthan, Mawai Senathirajah, as well as Principal of St. Patrick’s College, Staff members, parents and past pupils graced the event.
