Kandurata Group sponsors Trinity Rugby
View(s):Kandurata Group of Companies has come forward as a sponsor of Trinity Rugby, for the ongoing School Rugby season, which commenced last week.
This year Trinity is captained by Avishka Sheik with his deputy being Naveen Rajaratnam. This year, Trinity has an experienced side, coached for the second year by Lote Raikabula, a New Zealand Rugby Sevens legend, winning five IRB Sevens World Series medals, a Rugby World Cup Sevens title and two Commonwealth Games gold medals.
Trinity kicked off the Singer Schools League seasons last weekend against hometown rivals St. Anthony’s at Nittawela, where the match ended in a thrilling 15-11 win for the Lions.
Trinity, one of the institutions that introduced rugby to schools in the country, has a peerlessly rich tradition of 112 years with the game. Trinity has been consistently producing top rugby teams over the years while contributing to the game by producing many national players, captains, referees and administrators. Trinity and Royal play the traditional Bradby Shield encounter, which is considered as the ‘blue riband’ of schools rugby in Sri Lanka. After 73 years, the Bradby Shield count stands at Trinity 39 wins, Royal 32 wins and two ties.
Sponsors Kandurata Umbrella have been the clothing sponsor of the Sinhalese Sports Club cricket team continuously for the past six years and has been exclusively working with TAFA (Thaabit Ahmed Football Academy) sponsoring them for past two years and backing them in many ways and forms, allowing them to grow and spread football to the youth of the nation.
Old Trinitians’ Rugby Scrummage facilitated the partnership between Kanduarata Umbreallas and Trinity College which will enable the top rugby playing institution from the hill capital to pursue its goal.
