Three cueists with two wins each on day one
The first day’s proceedings of the Colombo District Billiards Championship which is one of the qualifying tournaments to select the players for the forthcoming 65th National Billiards Championship being played at Moors SC billiards table saw N. Thiyagarajah of AAC, H.M. Priyadharshana of Army and K.G.K. Anuradha also of Army recording two wins.
Thiyagarajah, Priyadharshana and Anuradha recorded wins against A.A.P. Ratnayake of Army, Shan Kanishka of Starlight and G.H.A. Madusanka (Air Force) in the morning session and then overcame S.A. Wimalaratne of SLPA and H.G.S. Helaruwan of Army in the afternoon session.
The other cueists to come out victorious in the matches played in the morning and afternoon sessions were R. Ganesh (Starlight), W.D. Madusanka (Army), H.K.T. Sampath (Army), K.G.M. Nishantha (Air Force), D.M.S. Dullewa (Police) and M.M. Rizmi (MSC).
Apart from the Colombo District Billiards tournament separate district tournaments will be played in Galle, Nuwara Eliya and Kandy districts from which 16 cueists will qualify to contest in the second qualifying tournament which is the All Island Lanka Plate Billiards tournament.
After the completion of the All Island Lanka Plate 12 cueists will qualify to participate in the 65th National Billiards Championship along with the top ranked players in the island.
The Colombo District tournament is being contested by 87 cueists from clubs around the metropolis and is scheduled to come to an end on March 27.
